You need to do a "pedal trick" and let us know what codes are present in the engine ECU. :y

hi all

just done the pedal tric again have a few codes now

0300, 0304, 0306,

these seem to relate to the same thing as in cylender 4 and 6 misfire detected
and general misfire detected.

then i have the 0173 and 0170 still on there relating to fuel trim malfunction on bank 1 and bank 2

still have the 0335 for crankshaft but i havnt had ay codes cleared since replacing

and finally the 1530 for the ac relay

now i have replaced the spark plugs and the gasket seals as one had burst and oil leaked into the 2,4,6 spark plugs and coil pack havnt changed coil pack do u think this should be next thing to be done

any help much aprecated.

could the fuel trim stuff be anything to do with there being air getting out from a hole inthe exhaust or something like that

I have the same codes on mine for fuel trim, I've fitted a cheap MAF (Mass Air Flow meter) to mine and it cures the codes and puts the light out, but then it comes back on a couple of weeks later. I don't know if a genuine MAF will cure the problem, I'm a bit hesitant to fork out over £100 when my car runs ok and passes MOT emissions with the cheap one on  :-\

You can find MAF's on ebay for about £30 if you want to try it

If you have a leak in the front of the exhaust system (manifolds / downpipes) then that could cause a fuel trim problem but it would be unlikely to do so for both banks. In this case, with a fuel trim problem on both banks, looking at the live data with a Tech2 or similar would help diagnosis, but it will typically be something like the MAF, which affects both banks.

As jonnycool has eluded to, cheap MAFs can be a false economy.

I would say more diagnosis required before you go changing parts. Can you get access to a code reader that can do live data? Would be good to see the fuel trim values and the MAF sensor output. Check for any air leaks into the induction system, splits in the ducting, etc., though.

also just a quick one

the engine temp seems to be taking a while to get to where it should be

when first started it probably takes about a half hour before it even lifts from zero

thanks

Yep, sounds like thermostat failure. Might be worth fixing this and seeing how it goes, as if this fault has persisted for a while and it's been running around cold, it might have affected fuel trims.

Easy way to tell a failed thermostat is to start the engine from cold and see if the radiator top hose starts getting warm. It should stay cold until the engine gets to 80+ degrees indicated on the gauge and then suddenly get very hot. If it warms up with the engine, thermostat has had it.

If it seems OK, let it warm up until the fans come on. At this point the gauge should be reading over 90 degrees. If not. The gauge sensor may be disconnected or faulty.
