Ipod into an Omega
« on: 08 February 2011, 19:42:52 »

Bit of a question for the technical gurus. Would it be possible to remove my 4 disc changer section of my stereo (think it is a 2006) and solder or fashion an ipod usb lead onto the connections where the cd changer used to reside?

Also if you want to remove the head unit, you will need to rip out all the Bose door speakers, rear parcel shelf speakers, sub and amp.

I personally would get a decent fm transmitter, not a cheapo crapo eBay special. Dave DND does a good one thats works well, quite a few members here use it.

Right Dave about my commission  ::)

Actually, there is a mod somewhere that does this sort of thing, but it is very dodgy iirc.

You could always buy a decent Sony Ericsson with the transmitter already in the phone.

As do some nokias. Sadly, not that effective IMHO. Itrip is another easy option, not that great mind....

We bought an iTrip for our iPod (doesn't work with iPhone 4 though >:()... It's pretty good in the UK but was crap through some of the European countries because there wasn't any "blank" airspace

Never bothered too much with it myself.
But had a w980i and it worked pretty well as an fm transmitter, and was convinient cause it had dedicated walkman buttons on the outside of the shell.

But Boditza why not simply create 8 or 10 directories and put songs in some order (alphabetical, genre or other) and you get the same thing as 8 or 10 disc changer which is faster to navigate than any standard changer in any car

still not worth the trouble in getting the cd changer out and soldering in there some things, or even paying 30-40 pounds for an fm transmitter that suports the ipod. i have to admit i listen to radio a lot in the car because there are 2 local radio stations with 23 hours a day of music :)
