You may remember my unfortunate incident with the gate post whilst testing my shiny new reversing sensors?

Well, little did I know, that whilst attatching the control box to the inner wing with a sticky pad, I pushed the box too hard to make it stick, causing a solder connection on the board inside to break.

I only found out when I gently nudged a Smart car whilst waiting for the bleeps.

No damage at all to my previously scuffed bumper, but the Smart car was a write-off.  8-)

Problem solved by remaking all the solder connections!

So the moral is.  If you're fitting one of these, or any control box, be careful not to flex the sides too much.  The board may bend and weaken or break a solder joint.

So before you had sensors, you'd never reversed into anything, and since having the sensors, you've done it twice. Hmmm....

Needless to say, I've shelved the front sensor fitting project!

Instead, I'm going to fit several old tyres to the front and back bumpers for protection, barge stylee.

It should look something like this when finished.

I reckon these should be standard fit, even on the base models!

     Low profile I hope! Just not your day then, as a matter of interest, where did you fit the sensors? I am going to install a cheapo JML set, but don't want them to look like some skinflint has fitted cheapo JML ones.

So before you had sensors, you'd never reversed into anything, and since having the sensors, you've done it twice. Hmmm....

It just goes to show what happens when we start relying on sensors.  

I just hope Vx don't start fitting sensors to engines and the like. That'd be a nightmare!

I've had reverse 'sensors' on all my cars. One in the middle of the screen at the top on them all, and one on each of the doors on the later cars! MIRRORS!

i fitted mine about 2 weeks after i got the car, i have had them in the past and they are a godsend....

here's mine, i got the kit from ebay, came with a distance display as well

Bit different on my estate..how i fitted mine..i ran the wires from the outside into the spare wheel well....handy vent holes in it.....then under boot carpet into the cubby hole lhs of boot and chucked the contol unit in there.....after splicing into reverse light wire and attaching Ov to an convienent earth stud.
I didnt stick it down at all.....and happily lives with wheel jack, wheel nut spanner, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, wheel locking set and an air freshener......i think its a tardis in there!  

Sorry to hear you reversed into summat again m8.....i noticed ive got a scuff on the rear bumber on a corner......it wasnt there when i fitted the sensors and i havent reversed into anything either.....i reckon case of lazy driver of not bothering to reverse a bit first when pulling outa a space behind me

Did you paint the sensors individually or did you redo your full bumper after fitting?

I painted the sensors before fitting, heres my work in progress pic:



The positions were taken from the factory fitting points, if you get them correct you will find a channel already formed in the bumper foam insert which makes it a bit easier to fit.

Marks photo is also valid for prefacelifts, as I used it when I did mine a few months back.

Get the Vauxhall touch up spray and paint the sensors, as the Vx paint will be an excellent match...
