Turning cams with crank at 60 degrees
« on: 01 September 2011, 16:19:26 »

Hi

I've got the crankshaft at 60 degrees before TDC - that is, the marker is at the 4 o'clock position. However, when I try and turn the no.1 and no.2 camshafts I feel something like a slight scraping and slight resistance. I don't want to move the cams round anymore in case the valves are touching the pistons. Is it posible to turn the cams by hand if they are touching or is that just by turning the crank?

Is this going to be a "why a locking kit must be used" thread....?

Can't answer your q Chris but I am sure someone will be along.  :)

No ;D. I took the crankshaft lock off to put the belt on and forgot, and when I set the tension the crankshaft moved by about quarter inch and threw the timing out.

I could not remember if it was OK to turn the crank anti-clockwise without the belt on so went clockwise to be safe and reset the camshafts.

Didn't do any damage though - just taken it on a test drive and it's still running sweet :y
