Bad cold starting
« on: 20 April 2011, 09:43:09 »

Hi just wondered if any ideas. When cold I need to turn the car over 2-3 times before it will catch. I noticed that when depressurizing the system it had very little pressure so I changed the fuel pressure regulator which made no difference. I also have a very strong smell of petrol but no sign of any leaks. Since changing the regulator the smell only seems to last for a little while when first started. Grateful for any ideas.

Thanks its now there  :y

When you say you changed the fuel pressure regulator what exactly do you mean? The fuel pipes run from the tank to the inlet manifold, is this what you changed?

Whats the history on the fuel filter?

Worth doing a paperclip test as well, details in the maintenance section  :y

I changed the regulator that sits in the fuel rail on the inlet manifold - VX part 9118850 - REGULATOR, PRESSURE, FUEL INJECTION. I changed the fuel filter about a year ago and I do have a spare filter if you think that could be the cause.
