growling noise Propshaft bearing maybe????
« on: 23 March 2011, 19:58:13 »

Hi all
Just noticed a really deep growling kind of noise coming what sounds to be from under the car.
I have a chipped 2.5td and when I go up a long hill in 4th or 5th and floor it the noise starts. Its a kind of rumbling or deep wuring noise hard to describe.
Has anyone else had this sound before, I was thinking along the lines of center bearing. I heared that a chipped omega can rip the box apart, although mine is a manual.
Thanks for any advice

I don't know the answer to that, what bhp do you get out of your chipped bmw?

Yeah my mate has an un-chipped version, think its around 128 bhp so probably the same as a 2.0 litre petrol? his does not put me in my seat if you know what I mean.

To be honest I am looking for a 2.5TD myself in the future, what's the crack with chipping them? And with regards to chips, someone else I know runs theirs on chip fat without a problem, as do I in my Rover 400 SLDi, bosch fuel pump. It even started in -9c!

Seems like more power could be had from the lump lol, great on fuel too!

I have it on good authority that when chipped lightly it produces 150 and the manual box will easily deal with that, it was just the slush boxes that had to have the engines detuned, so Vx made it easy on themselves and detuned all the BMW lumps. I think the 150 figure is what similar BMW cars are in standard form.
