ABS ECU 1999
« on: 24 February 2011, 10:43:16 »

Assuming I fit an abs ecu from a different engine do I need to program the engine and trans on a 1999 (B) with a tech 2? Or can I just fit it?

Thanks,
Matt.

The ABS ECU does need to be coded with engine type and auto/manual. Best to find one from an identical spec. car if possible.

EDIT: to say that there are more major differences between versions fitted in earlier / later cars and between 4 pot / v6 / diesel cars.

OK thanks, a breaker is insisting that the early ones don't, he also says the later ones don't.

Thought as much.

It's from a 3.0, mines a 2.5.

You could probably get away with a 2.5 / 3.0 mismatch but transmission type will be a show stopper if wrong, I think.

Best to hold out for the right one unless you have access to a Tech 2 - or get your old one refurbed?

The daft thing is the breaker has a 2.5 one, it was the one listed on eBay. I specifically confirmed I wanted a 2.5 one so I didn't have to reprogram, he said you don't need to and sent the 3.0 one to prove a point I believe.

Thanks for your help.
