coolant temp

Out in the car yesterday and had the heaters on as quite steamed up inside (ooh er missus) driving along as normal got stuck in traffic and temp started to go up as normal the fans kicked in but the temp kept going up till it got to 130 and the light came on and then it went down to 100 and stayed there dont know whats caused it but changed water pump 3 weeks ago so not sure if this is the cause or something on the heater side any thoughts cheers ian :)

Would check straight away for a lose aux belt (check the tension) and also check for airlocks.

ok but mines a 4 pot timing belt driven should have said that sorry :(
How would i know if its an airlock?

run it up to temp from cold with expansion tank cap off, any air locks should make their way out, try squeezing hoses too.

out in car again today and temp went to red again so turned it off but turned the ignition on straight away and the gauge went to about half way. i think it might be the temp sender not sure though.

You need to get accurate, real time temperature readings ASAP to be sure you aren't going to cook it :o :y

will check at weekend. if i do cook it perfect excuse for a bigger engine ;D

when I had this, I checked the thermostat, waterpump, replaced the heat sensor, flashed the system.
noting helped, only dismantle the rad open it and did thorough cleaning of all the tunnel inside.
did in a garage quite cheep
