Its dripping
« on: 24 September 2009, 20:11:29 »

Over the last few days when I park up, I come out to find a watery like red stain on the road, its dripping down from the front drivers side, off the front valance on my MV6, looks like power steering fluid, but the levels are fine. I can see most of it under the air box by the air con pipes and a bit splatered on the side of the airbox :-?. Any ideas?

Is the puddle oily or watery?

If your MV6 is an auto, it could be gearbox oil. There are pipes from the gearbox to the gearbox oil cooler which is located in the driverside of the radiator. I would check the banjo bolts which locate the pipes into the radiator

Power steering pipes run infront of the radiator (to cool the fluid), if they leak it would drip onto the lower section of the bumper where it goes under the car.

Also, if you are using Vx coolant it is generally a red / orange colour.

Just had a look, it seems the pipe comeing down from the radiator and heading under the air box is corroded at the pioint where it goes into rubber section, its then collecting under what I think are A/C hoses that sit in a gully sectionunder the air box. Still dont know if coolant or power steeting or.... using Vx fluids by the way. Its more oily than water, its stains the road, but is red when you wipe it up with a white cloth? Need to do 300 miles tomorrow (mainly M25 traffic), just trying to work out if I can :D

Sounds like ATF, drivers side is where the cooler sits. Either the pipes that run too and from the box have corroded (most likely) or the rad's oil cooler has failed.

I'd check the ATF level in the gear box
