Oil leak
« on: 24 August 2009, 11:52:07 »

I know I'm gonna sound dim but I have found an oil leak on my omega ( 3.0 elite if that helps ) as you look at engine it's on the left hand side it looks like a rocker gasket but bit scared it's the head gasket I know it's a bit vague but could someone let me know if that sounds like head gasket please.
I'm a little bit worried cuz the car is my pride and joy

Head gasket is very rare, have you checked in the sparkplug wells? if there is oil in there than its your rocker gasket. use kitchen roll to soak the oil up.

rocker cover gasket is very common. theres a good how2 on here for replacing. you MUST buy genuine VX ones, use the correct sealant and clean the breathers at the same time.

do this soon... I had oil in my plug wells which degraded the HT leads, one of them snapped through leaving me running on 5 cyls for about 10 miles then the dispack blew, leaving me running on 4 cyls.

total bill for all the repairs (from a very cheap mate) £191!

all could have been avoided for the sake of a £30 gasket and a couple of hours.
