Use only a box from a V6 as they are built to take the grunt, the 2.5 or 3.0 ltr box up to around1998 should be identical obviously get as lower mileage one as possible. If you think it's worth it and you can afford it get a recon box.

3.0 and 3.2 have an AR35 autobox and all others use an AR25. If you put an AR25 box in a 3.0 or 3.2 it will not be able to handle the extra torque.

Ideally you need to test drive the car that you get the AR35 from or get a warranty. Before fitting I recommend dropping the front sump and checking if there are any bits of thrust washer.

But, what are the fault symptoms.......when I see statements like

Quote
need a new torque convertor

I suspect the person doing the diagnosing hasn't got a clue what they are talking about!

Yes but, like what.......the fact that the gearbox is getting drive to the wheels and not slipping sudgests otherwise.......were the revs red lining?

Well in which case the gearbox is on a gear and the engine output power is down.

Any sign of an ECU fault light on the dash?

When was the fuel filter last changed?

Does the engine tick over smooth?

id say the filter hasnt been changed in 3 years, engine runs perfect, paperclip test showed me a fault in the knock sensor,i did tell this guy who looked at the car, he actally got another mech to read the codes, dont know what diagnostic equip he used ? he rang me yest and told me all the faults showing were for the box ?
I was going to take it to my local dealer to get them to read the codes just in case

Well, the fuel fitler is long over due a change!

And if there is a knock sensor fault then the ECU retards the timing and you get low power output......again, all sudgesting its not the box!

if the knock sensor is out then it will like driving a car that is dragging a big weight.
My knock sensor was faulty, the car felt hugely underpowered, the only way to get the car to do anything is to floor it, and if thios was done at the wrong time it would really bang down a gear with an almighty shunt.

once mine was done it is business as usual, fuel economy has returned (as much as it can in an omega!!) and it is a sprightly as it was before
