Carpet Cleaner
« on: 03 May 2007, 12:49:55 »

Can anyone recommend a good carpet/upholstery cleaner and deodoriser?

I spilt some water some time ago and since then it has been honking something awful.

Cheers,

Ian

Try Febrise from Tesco/Asda for a fiver.  Sickly sweet smell at first but does deoderise very well.

I use Vax carpet shampooer myself  - great for cleaning up sick in my wife's car so should be fine for some standing water  :-[

I find Oust! good at getting rid of odours - it seems to get rid of them, rather than just mask.  Smells poncy for a day or 2 though...

VAXes are good
As carpet cleaners go, VAX's are not that good by a long shot.  But they are good at getting most of the water out of your car's carpet/seat after scrubbing properly :)

I got one of these http://www.vax.co.uk/shop/product_detail.php?productID=7 for £110 delivered with a free hard floor washer and solutions.  It does the job well for the house and car.  Considering a shampoo at local valeter is £30/50 it pays for itself quickly.  Not that I need it in my car cos the kids are banned :y

Where do you get Oust from TB?   Is it a supermarket job or car product?   I've got a Sainsbury's on the way home, Tesco is a bit out of the way (Halfruds and another car place just up the road too)

It really is the pong that is the issue.  Strange that spilling water has caused that and it hasn't gone away over at least a year.  There is no sign of any damp anywhere now.

Cheers,

Ian

I've had good results using Traffic Film Remover from Machine Mart, I use it weaker than normal and spray it onto the carpets and leave for 10 minuites or so then fill the Vax with clean warm water to rinse it out.
It is very effective on the green growth around door and window seals which is probably why it is effective at cleaning up the results of a scuttle drain over-flow.
