Just to check.   My new replacement seals come out of the bag as two loops connected by short straight pieces.

Old old ones on the car appeared to be two loops, without the connecting bits (ie 2 loops for each cover)

So I am assuming that I'm supposed to cut the connecting bits out (manufacturing artifact or something like that).   I'd appreciate confirmation before I start cutting!

They came from Autovaux and have the Vauxhall part number on (90511451).
I thought the AV ones were kocher?

Which car is the cam cover seal for if its for the 2.0 this comes as a 1 piece job from Vx or atleast the ones I have had have. No cutting needed.

I think you need to check the part numbers with avx.
For the 2.5 I have 90501638 but this may have been superceeded, the genuine seals are definately in singles. The 2.5 Vectra seals are joined by a web but this is for the metal camcover.

Dont forget...BLACK sealant, if offered green refuse it...the parts list is misleading so green is being sold in error. Green will only work between metal parts.

My mistake, part number is 90511451 and quantity is listed as 2 so I wonder if they have changed them again?

It sounds like an Elring gasket.....although Elring are a Gm supplier (mainly head gaskets), they do not supply the cam cover gaskets....

Mark I think you are right.  On closer inspection of the bag the label (With a new one stuck over the top so bit difficult to tell) has a logo something like '..ring' with red circle and text.

I had thought I read somewhere that the Autovaux supplied parts were genuine, but I guess I should have specifically confirmed.  Anyway, lesson learned.

So it will be out with stanley knife shortly.

Chap I spoke to said that the later cam covers had the channel for the bridging bit (and that the GM labelled ones were just the same).  So I need to cut them to fit.   Not ideal but not much choice right now.

Autovaux strike again...I am fast loosing confidence in them.

1) Never seen a cam cover yet with the groove in it (including my 2001 V6).....will check another set tomorrow so will specificaly look for it.

2) The Vx supplied ones do NOT have the section in them....I have bought god knows how many sets in the last year. I ahve also just spoken to my supplier who has just got three sets out of stock and confirmed that they do not have the rubber bridge piece.

3) Elring do not make this gasket for Vx.....

Hes talking shite....trying to fob you off me thinks.....ask him this....if they leak within 12 months of fitting, are they willing to cover replacement with genuine items and labour.....

The big problem we have found is that the non-gen gaskets are either to hard (like the FAI ones) or collapse over a short period of time (pretty much all others!).....this results in leaks!

Mine is a 98.  Strangely enough there is a surface marking (but not channel) on the cam cover exactly where the bridge bits are (were!) but no way would the seal have fitted.

Just to clarify and agree with Mark, the non gens that I had looked spot on, I fitted them, the oil on the manifolds burnt of within the week, all seemed dandy,  (breathers were spotless by the way).  Three weeks later, oil smell in the cabin again, plug holes full of oil, manifolds covered too...  BLOODY FRUSTRATING!  anyway that was £32 down the drain.  Got VX genuines from local dealer, fitted them and all's been fine for 6 weeks now.  nNo signs of any leaks smells at all..

If you can send them back, go to VX and pay the extra, "Cause you're worth it"

I don't relish the thought of doing the job again soon but on the bright side at least I should know what I'm doing (well a bit more anyway).
