………..
Even getting up to top speeds (max for an Omega, and Senator  >:D >:D >:D) when needs arose .  Wouldn't do it now, but that certainly tested my skills over those years ::) >:D >:D

You hooligan, I like your style.  ;) :)
“When needs arose”.  ;D  Hmm, YZ rubs his chin wondering when I can justify going flat out in the UK.  ;D

Following a near blowout from the almost new Sumitos …….

A Hankook tyre let go on me when we had the Omega. I was very lucky though, firstly as we’d not long unhooked the caravan after a 250 mile journey and secondly that it wasn’t at great speed. I was doing about 60mph when the car twitched slightly, giving me time to roll to a standstill with little to no braking. The self levelling sorted the change in height on that wheel so it was all rather boring really.  ::)
And yes, those nasty little reinforcement strands did stick in my fingers as I went to remove the wheel.  ;D  I thought that I had a normal puncture, I didn’t realise that it was a full on blow-out as the hole was on the inside tyre wall.   ::)  I don’t recall hitting anything in the road but suspect some of the damage was rolling damage where I was slowing down.

How many weights were on that wheel?  ::)

A good few years back I had Merc fit a couple of tyres to my R Class. When I got home I realised there was just over 100g of weights on one spot on the rim. I phoned them to tell them I'd be bringing it back for them to refit ..... of course they tried to tell me that me wheel was buckled etc etc. When I got back to the dealership I was met by one their 'techs' (who wasn't some spotty yoof) ..... he couldn't see that there was a problem because in the past he'd used 200g!!
I just told him I wasn't prepared to accept it as it was & he should try again. He came back a short time later to proudly state that he's just now just used 30g ..... which I told him he should have done in the 1st place!

If I recall correctly, red and yellow dots on a tyre's sidewall are balancing marks, indicating the tyre's heaviest and lightest points respectively, used by fitters to optimise wheel balance and minimise the need for balancing weights.  :y  Clearly a lot of fitters don’t apply this thought, especially the one that fitted my Hankooks.  ::) ;D

Ooh, a tyre thread, it's Lizzie's fault.  :)  The reason I liked Goodyear Eagles on my Omega was because when I was travelling home from work in the pouring rain one day, a car pulled out directly in front of me forcing me to brake really hard. There was no drama, no abs from what I recall, the Goodyears just did their job.  :y
It was before I was reformed so it goes without saying that I was pushing on a bit, so I was impressed with the wet grip of those Goodyears.  :y  They were so good under hard braking in the wet that my lunch bag flew from the back seat and turned the radio off.  ;D  It's just a shame that you have to bin them with decent tread on due to the dreaded tread groove cracks.  ::)
TVP used Goodyears on their Omegas with good reason :y

Following a near blowout from the almost new Sumitos that were fitted to TPC when I bought it, it now has Goodyear Eagles as well. And they perform just as well on the S Class as they did on the Omega :y

Yes you’re correct, I insist on mine being fitter properly as they should be.

Strange thing... My Mondeo has been sat on the drive for 5 weeks while I've been away, and I thought it was 50/50 whether the battery had any juice left.  ::)

When I tried to open the car with keyfob nothing happened, so I opened it with the key and the alarm went off.  I jumped in quickly, hit the Start button and it turned over (albeit slowly) and started!  :y

So not enough juice in the battery to operate the central locking, but enough to start it.....  :-\

I'm sure you already know Sir Tig that that will do the battery no favours in terms of longevity.

Obviously if it was at the airport, you have limited choices, but at home, consider a comfort charger/maintainer, or disconnecting the battery :y

This I would have done, but the bonnet release cable has snapped and I can't open the bonnet at the moment.  ::)

I need to 'dismantle' the grill so that I can release the catch.  :)

It was just one of those moments when I had to get to one of our stores in Coventry after my local Regional Manager reported that a JCB had been driven through the outlet, and local yobs were having a field day with our stock!  A very fast, emergency, drive up the motorways got me there in rapid time to take overall command of events. Just one example of having to get 'there fast', wherever that was as, believe it or not, individuals in the emergency services sometimes helped themselves to a bit of what was ours!  I was always ready to explain to the police if stopped of why I was speeding, but never was.  My police, pursuit advanced driver friend taught me well!! >:D >:D >:D >:D

As stated though, I would never do any of those runs now given the road conditions, congestion, and speed cameras, with a lot stricter (thank God) police enforcement.  But, in those days it WAS different! ::) ::) :P

120 plus in a big executive car is incredibly different to the same speeds in a hot hatch as they're designed to eat up the miles at3 figures. For all the criticism of German engineers, unrestricted autobahns have given us alot to be thankful for :y

Nowadays, 80 on a fast single carriageway A road is plenty and 75/76 on a motorway just to satisfy the cameras. I used to set the winter tyre limiter on the Alabama Mumsybus as that could hit a ton far quicker than it had any business being able to. On TPC, I set the radar cruise at 76 and let it follow the car ahead... Without that, it will get to 120 plus without hesitation if you're not concentrating.

All fluid checks on the RRS all good, never had to top up the oil since I've had it brake fluid etc all okay, had four new tyres (Pirellis) a couple of weeks ago checked wheelnuts & pressures all okay, was thinking of cleaning it but just too windy here at present.
