Got a little further in locating my annoying intermittent buzzing noise.  Need a grown up to check the schematics now...

Not that I understand why it's happening.  So maybe it's not that - I need to go for a drive to see if the annoyance is still there.

I was impressed with how the accuracy of the navigation system is with the GPS antenna disconnected.  Over 30 miles driven, and its still cock-on :)

Must admit, in a World that's obsessed with using their phones for navigation I thought I was alone in still using the built in Nav's on our cars!

Very rarely use satnav, don't go to many places that I've never been before, had our 20 year old grandson on a trip out with  us a few weeks ago & he just couldn't understand why I didn't need satnav at all.

A while back my shark fin aerial lost its bearings completely and because I needed it fixed quick for a trip away I replaced it *temporarily*  ::)  with a plug in dash aerial box plugged into the MMI system in place of the fin connection. I just placed it randomly under the dashboard behind the MMI and it worked a treat.  :y
Unlike yours, when mine was unplugged, the car thought that it was in Milton Keynes when it was parked on my driveway, so approximately 25 miles out.   ;D

Yep, it’s still like that to this day.  ;D  It’s finding 12 satellites, which is probably as good as the shark fin, considering that the box is just thrown somewhere under the dashboard. Only issue really is when I do a code scan I get an open circuit fault for the shark fin but I can live with that.  :)

It's not so much for the guidance, as, like many i've spent all my driving life driving around the Country for work, it's more for the traffic / road information / speed limit functions that I find useful

Got to admit that the traffic info on the radio has come in useful on the odd occasion.👍

Shark fin will see more and with a higher signal strength but, you only need 4 or 5 in sight to get a half decent position.

I suspect the shark fin antenna has a DTC resistor in it so it would be possible to get rid of that but adding the same.

In fairness, I’ve no idea how many it see with the shark fin, as I had no need to check until it went wrong but I agree, the line of sight alone is better for the shark fin.  :y

Which uses the phone GPS.  Which then becomes a problem.
