Changed Cam Cover Seal to daughter's Astra J 2010 having A16XER engine. First realized rough running when accelerating, P0300 and later oil in spark plug wells. Old seal was hard as glas. It was original, as had this car from almost new. Then changed water pump as it was leaking from rubber seal. Water hoses are quite pressurized. I am now wonderin can it be head gasget case. When changed spark plugs they all had same colour so perhaps not. Is head gasget common failure in these engines? Running and idling nicely.

If it runs and idles smoothly, then I would call it done :y

Gave the RRS a good workout on my pals farm this morning loaded the dogs in drove across the fields up onto the riverbank walk where we usually go ,after all the rain last night it had become a real boggy area ,had to engage low gear & raise the suspension , SWMBO was beginning to panic but I had every confidence , what a superb vehicle, needs a trip to the illegals for a good wash now !

Did the oil and filter, and also the air filter as that had been in there a while (need to check how long, but it was pretty manky.

Doing the air filter reminded me that it was ultimately designed by that useless, trainer wearing, Scottish idiot.  I'd really like to have a "chat" with him.

Added 2dl coolant to doughter's Astra J having A16XER engine. After having changed water pump it still has minor leakage somewhere. Below thermostat housing is small amount of coolant. Either thermostat cap is broken, its sealing is bad, the whole housing installed to head is btoken or its sealing to head is leaking. When engine is cold I cannot see any leakage even pressurized to 25psi wth my tester. Perhaps it is a minor crack etc. somewhere which opens when hot, strange, any ideas. These plastic parts...

That will be next task, yes, thanks for comment DG. I once tried to open the cap after drive but coolant started to boil out so I stopped and closed. That made me think that it is HG-case as so much gas in the system. Have to try again.

There are testers available on Amazon. (And other places)  you could try one of them they test if there is combustion gasses entering the cooling system

         https://www.amazon.co.uk/RELD-Cylinder-Combusion-Universal-Motorcycles/dp/B07RS3N98V/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=SB3IGL4RFZ7B&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ogn8rRnHTZ5vxXWWS6p4G74LBobT1wYGIypa6s3g9oEceo5cUgsKv5QN_GT-qMdBtWR7TEuuRqPcJesRopiSyN6oxTK5P8LogQaL9VGiTL8.tEG5uTeH6VJccNrXFQ1Wc7AFkcMCR0d89ZSh2WsYfQc&dib_tag=se&keywords=hard+gasket+test&qid=1739714688&sprefix=hard+gasket+test%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-3
There are of be course others too, have a browse👍

Ok fit the pressure tester, allow the engine to warm up naturally with the heater set to HI (fan on lowest setting).

Then see what leaks as you add pressure.

Crawled underneath the Mondeo to see if I could release the bonnet catch from underneath as the cable is broken, but as it has a Transit engine things are a bit different to ordinary Mondeos.  ::)

In the video that Jimmy kindly found it looks fairly easy to remove the security plate from underneath and release the catch, but with mine the security plate is not visible and I couldn't work out what was what as I was blindly groping about.  :-\

So I refitted all the undertrays and that's a fight for another day.  :-X
