Got the Bastid bolt back in, top hose fitted - that did put up a bit of a fight.
Pressure tested the system and when it got to around 0.5 bar coolant pissed out from under the stat.  :'( :'( >:(
Its just had a new seal so god knows why its leaking.  ???
Got to  take it all apart for the third time, try and work out what the problem is, and then do it all again.
Maybe buy a new Stat housing in case this one has warped ?  :-\

You'll be able to do the Bastid bolt blindfold by the time you get it right!  :y  ;D

Its effing soul destroying to see coolant pissing out after all that messing around to get to that point.
I feel like giving up at the moment, but tomorrow is another day I suppose.
Just sorry I didnt just leave it and top it up once in a while until next summer.  ::)

Took this morning Omega 2001 for MOT, failed, left outer track rod end had vertical clearance, have to be repaired wihin 30 days. Then 'comment' of oil leakage which I beliveve is residuals of last winter's freezed breather system. Needs some kind of engine washing, ideas how to do welcome.

Refill with just water in case it leaks again again,, you need to check that bolts aren't bottoming, threads are good in the housing, and it hasn't got hairline crack, also check the hose, they can leak, use a new jubilee

For every day like that, there are twice as many that aren't  :y

Driving over the top of Bury Hill this morning was a sight to behold...sunrise over a layer of mist and a clear view of both the Shoreham wind farm and the Isle of Wight. 8)

The rest of the day not so much...

Took the Proper Car down for its new conductor plate and gearbox flush first thing.

Got a phone call at 1 asking what the symptoms were... not shifting into 3/4/5 and a box speed sensor fault...

No sign of the speed sensor fault but still won't go into 3/4/5. So that was a grand well spent  :-X

Needs a new box, so the thick end of another £1,700 >:( On the plus side, the new conductor plate will go into it... Every cloud and all that :D

opps, hard to take but when you love the car it’s gonna cost, 😵‍💫 two weeks and I’m already 3 grand into some preservation work on the Evo😵‍💫 I’m certainly not rich but I’ve owed it forever and it’s value is only going up so money well spent imo. It will get what it wants, it’s my saviour, I love it🤣

Careful BG, you'll start up the ancient controversy of Jubilee clips vs Vx hose clips!  ;D

Filled Swmbos Toyota up 475 miles on 27 litres , equates to 79 mpg I actually took the figures advertised as the usual exaggerated nonsense, but I've got to admit it's a great little car.

Cigar goes to BG.  :y
I shall explain. Its a weird one. The bolts were indeed bottoming out. Had two identical but slightly shorter bolts in my stash and that appears to have fixed the problem.
Put it all back together (bastid bolt went in relatively easily this time) and pressure tested it to 1 bar. No leaks.  8)
The reason its a weird one is the fact that those two bolts have been holding that stat housing in place for the last 6 years or more, and it only started leaking a couple of weeks ago straight after a coolant change.
Explanation ? I cant think of one.  :-\
Have had enough for today, so the fanimold, plenum etc will be a job for tomorrow, then fire it up, top up coolant etc.
But Im pretty confident its sorted now.  :)

If the bolts were too long, it will only have been by the tiniest of margins. How much crap did you have to clean from the faces of the join? Probably just enough to make a seal.

Yesterday refitted the transfer pipe and bastid bolt. Just now went out and pressure tested the system and its leaking around the Stat at 5psi.  >:( :'(
So need to start the job over again. I m not going to use gasket goo this time if I can help it.
………..

I’m sure that you’ve already checked that the stat bolts aren’t bottoming out but I’ll mention it anyway just in case, as some stats had the thinner flange on them.  :y  As it’s been fine up until now I doubt it’s that but thought it worth a mention.  :y

Huh humm, I did ask if you'd checked this 3 pages ago.  :y :)  ;D
