Review: Omega 2.5 CDX Manual for sale
« on: 04 May 2009, 00:12:20 »

Saw this car http://www.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Id=AETV19545764

In case anyone else is thinking of looking here's my assessment.

1) bad rust on rear offside wheel arches plus osme other scuffs and odd rust patches.
2) Searching on tick over - air flow meter?
3) Near side front tyre worn way more than off-side although one may have been replaced.
4) Pulls to left on braking although maybe fluid just need replacing.
5) After a run when I pulled up it stalled and didn't want to restart.
6) Bit milky under oil cap and when I got back from 5 minute run it actually had water droplet on the oil cap.
7) Coolant pretty much boiled dry.
8) Strong smell of oil and smoke rising from engine after 5 minute drive - rocker covers need replacing?

He's asking £1500. Reckon he'll be lucky to get £500. Engine pulls OK though and gearbox was good.

Way to expensive judged by what you said, even if it was in tip top nick then he'd probably only just get the 1500 quid he's asking now.

Given the issues you have described £1500 is way too expensive. Clearly this motor hasn't been regularly serviced otherwise there would be no smoke, no mayo etc.

Putting it into perspective, I will be putting my 2.6 CDX on the market soon but have a couple of jobs to do first - new tyres, front disc's, fix wiper self park, etc - but even at that I wouldn't expect to get £1500 for it.

Interesting. What're the stats on your CDX?

Interesting. What're the stats on your CDX?

2.6 CDX Auto. 98,000 miles. I've had the car since August 2007. Timing belt and full service by dealer when I purchased the car (55,000 miles). Since then I've done all the servicing at 10k intervals. Last MOT it had new rear springs and rear discs (vented) and pads. Two weeks ago it also had a full garage service (plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, etc.)

Car is still being used every day but could new with new tyres and possibly front discs next time the pads get changed. Only known faults are windscren wipers which dont self park (easily fixed) and an as yet unidentified problem with the air-con (wont chill).

Only considering selling as I now have 3 Omegas and an Astra Twintop and the driveway just aint big enough. Hopefully selling the 2.5 CDX this weekend to a mate but will also look to sell the 2.6CDX once I have transferred my personalised number plates from the 2.6 to the Elite.

This pic shows the 2.6 and the 2.5 on the drive (2.6 nearest)

2.6 on its own..

Let me know if you need more info.

Valid point! I'd have done it 3000k miles before unless I was sure it hadn't been done that long ago! Just not worth the risk.

The 2.6 CDX is a 2001 on a 51 plate. MOT'd until September (iirc).

Re the cambelt - I feel that 40k is slightly over cautious when the car is in regular use. I gave it a visual check at 90k and it was still good - it is only about 20 months old after all. I'll bet the cambelt on my 3.2 is in worse condition and it's only done 16k. Its been on the car since new though so must be pretty perished by now.

I can feel a cambelt party coming on....

I've just bought the sister car to yours!

Same year, same spec, same colour!
