A question for "older" forum members
« on: 17 November 2008, 16:19:17 »

This was a topic of conversation in the pub on Saturday night which started when someone commented "I can't believe it's nearly Christmas again"

Why is it that time appears to go much quicker as you get older?
Thinking back to schooldays, time seem to pass soooo slow and school summer holidays seemed to last an eternity. Then, each decade that passes it just seems to go quicker and quicker.  :-/

Thoughts?

Funny this should be brought up as the wife and I were talking about it yesterday, I can't offer an explanation but its is true that time seems to go quicker the older you get :(

If like me you have so much to do now it seems to pass so much quicker (I'm married, older and own a house, car etc) but when I was younger no ties, time just seem to pass rather slowly. I know what you mean long summer days just doing what you wanted, fat chance now.

 ;D

I ask this question to myself every morning I wake up  ;D

when you are young and have no responsibilities you have too much time..

but when you are an adult you need to earn your and your families living..and the run after money and other things really keeps you busy..

however technology also is not the same as our young time..

you are under information bombardment many newspapers, books, tv

channels, internet groups and etc..believe me if you like reading even

24 hrs a day not enough..for my job, everyday it becomes necessary

to read many documents etc etc..

but when I was a child there is only one tv channel , no internet and

very few newspapers were existent :-/

Not sure it's totally age related -- in these modern days we have e-mail for instant communication, microwaves for instant meals, a trip to Brighton is a day out when it used to be a holiday.

We used to think nothing of waiting for a reply to a letter, or an hour for dinner .... now 5 minutes is an eternity !!!!!

We overfill our lives these days to the detriment of our health and sanity -- hence we have no time to "stop and smell the flowers"  :-[

I cant speak for myself obviously, as I am very young. But I asked an older relative and he agreed that time does seem to pass more quickly for the aged. Still, I wouldn't worry about it too much, you'll probably die quite soon.
