Computer help Pretty Pleaseeeeeeee
« on: 13 November 2008, 20:48:49 »

Can any one advise please. :-[

Our computer will not connect to the internet, it is not the broadband connection as both lap tops work on wireless system.
Had BT guy on the phone for over an hour yesterday, communication was difficult to say the least, Indian call centre? :-X

When connecting to theinternet it says that this page can not be displayed, but MSN Works. It ‘pings’ correctly according to BT, various tests suggest it is connected.

Swbo is about to throw it out of the window, I gave up before her,  ::) ::) ::)

Tried a system restore and it would not accept any dates, ran various  checks. Swmo was advised to download ‘firefox’ she downloaded this and put it onto a stick to put into the computer, stick empty according to computer.

Any advice please, computer is only about a year old, don’t want to be changing it.
Please, Pleasel Please, not technical comments...................

sometimes you have to turn your firewall off - does that apply in your case?

If you right click on the network icon (next to the clock) then click connect to a network what does it say?

Sounds like it's lost the LAN card...

First chack the onboard LAN is enabled in BIOS. If it is, go to Control Panel, Device Manager. Check under the + of Network adaptors. Is there anything listed?

I am not on a wireless system, but when I have browser issues and no access my skype still works.

Sometimes just a modem reboot solves the problem, but I would have thought that and checking unplugging/plugging the telphone lines in has allready being tried?
