When they first brought the Kadjar out I thought it was a nice looking car, but thought it was the size of a VW Touareg or Audi Q7, so when I saw one in the flesh I thought  "Is that it?"    :-\

I think you've done the right thing giving this a swerve Uncle STEMO. You're never to old to need that little smile when you plant your right foot down and you weren't going get that with a 1.6 diesel::)   :)

Your uncle is a derv till I die man.... ;)

I have a 1.6 diesel  :)
135bhp is enough to propel an astra quite nicely. It's as quick/slow as my 2.0 diesel astra J, which had 165bhp. But the K is much lighter.

Nothing wrong with DERV, but in my humble opinion, I wouldn't look at anything under 2ltr.  ::)

Maybe Uncle STEMO is right though and a 1.6 is fine in little car.  :-\

Broadly speaking about the same as a 3 litre Capri from the seventies....and that was considered something of a hotrod. :)

The capri didn't have the low down grunt of a diesel, either.

It did well to avoid the Pug turd that the Granada got.

The 3 litre V6 Essex lump did most of it's best work at low revs. By 4500RPM it was starting to become breathless. Pretty much like  a diesel in that respect. :)

My M240i has maximum torque at a derv like 1900 RPM, where it kicks out 475 lb ft according to the Viezu dyno. Yet it revs to 7000 RPM.

Probably a wise choice to pass on it. At least as far as your head is concerned. The Astra might be a bit dull and boring, but is reliable and cheap to run.

Obviously, your heart says you want something different though!

I initially thought the Renault was much newer than the 'dog-snotter' Astra, but it wasn't.

Plenty of one year old cars can be bought for around 50% of list price if you shop around.

Probably a better bet than a 9 year frenchie that is due for an electrical meltdown before  bursting into flames. :y
