The former is not that uncommon in my experience with celebrities* I've met, particularly those that surround themselves with yes men.

I have had that asked several times over the years whilst at work. Whilst the response usually differed depending on the actual situation, invariably ' No, I can't say I do. But if you are unsure, maybe ask your Mother?' Usually, it didn't take them off their high horse, but if finished with a little smile, it was great to see their reaction.....
