Drivers side box removal
« on: 08 September 2024, 11:09:42 »

I'm having a moment and can't think what the proper name is of the little locking box down to the drivers right knee, so if there's a guide for this please tell me and call me names.

Either way I need to remove it because it's become it's own microplanet and Bill Oddie wants to study it.

I've took out three screws (two pointing inwards, one under the headlight switch) - but it still seems stuck and I don't want to just pull it... Any advice is appreciated!

It's easier to disassemble once you've removed it with the whole air vent assembly  ;)

I remember the side panel needs to come off the dash to remove it. Think that just pulls off. Not sure after that. Its been years since I removed one.

I swapped one when I changed the lower dash colour, but must have removed the dash ends about 10 times between buying the car from plod, converting it to a taxi and finally back to plod ;D

Same with the centre console and radio panel... In fact the only part of the dash I don't think I removed was the main lump of it :D

End cap off, undo the visible screws.
Upper part of the vent off, undo the screws revealed.
Headlight switch out.
Two screws above the cubby lid.
Air vent out.
Remove the now visible screws and the vent frame and cubby box assembly should fall off.

From memory... It's about 8 years since I last got that involved  :o

Sounds familiar for removing the whole thing. If you just want to remove the door, remove (just ?) the side panel and slide the pin out....I think.
Ten years plus since I last dismantled one.

Thank you very much gang!

If any of you are missing working on them, feel free tonpo up... I've spent some time this afternoon dropping the rear drivetrain out so there's still plenty to do ;)

I need a cheeky flight to collect some points... Newcastle can't be worse than Mancchester >:D

Actually, joking aside, I just flew with a chap from Newcastle who potentially wants some Merc bits doing... :-\

Are you accusing me of being a Geordie? Or even being Geordie-adjacent?!

I still have one one the drive to work on, plus my Boxster, C1 and sons Honda Civic - so its a matter of trying to keep on top of everything rather than missing anything.  :D
