…………..
On our trip we stayed at a campsite near Cannes. Two blokes with motorbikes picked up two girls. The guy on the Kawasaki Z900 was wearing shorts and the girl a bikini…………

If that was a Z1 900 that would be worth some serious money now.  :y
When I had bikes I had a golden rule for female passengers. They either wore protective gear or they took the bus, even if it meant lending them my jacket and gloves.  :y  Anyone who’s been hit by a bumble bee at 140mph 60mph whilst wearing a tee shirt will know that it feels like you’ve been shot.  ;D

Anyway, I hope the holiday goes well James.  :y

Best sounding bikes Z900/Z1000 ever made,  I’ve  played the scene where the biker pulls off after running Mel Gibson over in Mad  ???Max over and over again amazing sound especially played through the system at ludicrous decibels. The original Audi  S1 five cylinder sound is my class B Rally car favorite.

In my earlier days of reasonably fast bikes, I had a bee hit me on the underside of chin at around aforementioned speed and it nearly knocked me off.  After than, I always wore a padded snood or balaclava under my lid.

I had a bumble bee fly into the side of my old fashioned crash hat, didn't have full face ones when i was in my teens. :D Actually, when i started riding, helmets weren't obligatory. The bloke who was tending his garden near me when i screeched to a halt, leapt off and whipped of the hat wondered what the hell was going on. ;D  Luckily the bee was remarkably patient and never stung me.

Brief update as currently sat in a sunny bar with only my phone

Day one - arrived in Calais from Dover at 9am having been awake all night. Booked the ferry lounge but it was just full of unruly screaming kids running everywhere and parents who didn’t give a toss about controlling them. So instead we stopped at a garage in Calais and had a Power Nap for half an hour.

Drove south on non toll roads and mostly non motorways. We stayed in Tours, arriving after about 8 hours driving.

Nice evening there and nice breakfast at the hotel.

Back on the road yesterday and last night got to Pamplona in northern Spain. Beautiful city - we are spending 2 nights here and will then move on further south tomorrow

So far almost 900 miles. Old Omega hasn’t missed a beat. I reset the trip computer before we left the house and it’s currently reading 30.7mpg.

Not bad for an old 3.2 with a boot full of stuff :y

pudding basin helmet?

Was that pre war times? I know cars had a man with a red flag then. Did motor bikes have one too?

The omega is still a very handsome car. Less driving and more drinking, James, you know it makes sense  ;D

:P Cheeky sod.  ;D No, one of the ones where the shell covered the ears as well and also had snaps along the forehead part to put a visor on. Cutting edge me.  :D
I think it was a Centurian open face or something like that.

I wonder if this will be the last ever continental Grand Tour undertaken in a right hand drive UK Vauxhall Omega?  ???

James could be on a historic trip!  :y  8)

Depends what you want; having done it several times, I know Calais to the Spanish border(via Rouen, Tours, Poitiers, Bordeaux, Biarritz) on the autoroutes is a comfortable 10 hour trip in an Omega and I'd rather have the extra time at my destination.
