Same here.     The adverts blare out at a ridiculously loud volume    so I mute them as I’m not interested anyway.

Years later, just mentioning an advert makes you remember the product. That's exactly what it was designed to do. ……………..

I’d disagree. When I did watch them, way back when the tv people were capable of broadcasting adverts at the same volume as the program I had been watching, I remember tunes and amusing dialogue from the odd few adverts but have absolutely no idea what they are advertising. The advertisement itself goes right over my head. Amongst others, I can recall one old advert uses a tune from Enigma - Return to innocence and another uses a gorilla drumming but I’ve absolutely no idea what they are advertising and have zero interest in knowing either.

Years later, just mentioning an advert makes you remember the product. That's exactly what it was designed to do. The intention is that when you're standing in front of a shelf of whatevers, you'll be influenced enough to buy theirs.


It doesn't always work that way, because some people are so irritated by adverts they'll deliberately not buy that product. Effective advertising companies spend a lot of time and money identifying such people. It's the real reason for Google's existence, and is why organisations like Twitter are worth so much money when their visible products are so banal.

Yes ads are most definitely used to make it appear the Uk has at least 50% ethnic minorities and queer folk, or possibly more, propaganda at full tilt.
