Older means better value. If you're looking at £10,000 cars, then you may as well enjoy it.

Yes whatever i buy will have to be look after by a garage hence looking for something as new as my budget allows normally i lease cars with service included but there is nothing that is any use because of the current climate

A nice 10-20 year old car is going to be at least as reliable and comfortable as any nearly new car and for a fraction of the price.

A nice 10-20 year old car is going to be at least as reliable and comfortable as any nearly new car and for a fraction of the price.

An older car is going to need more love and care to keep it reliable and roadworthy, which is uneconomical if you are less able/willing to DIY it.  And we all know if you don't keep on top of the jobs that need doing, they can quickly get to a stage where you have to consider the financial viability of recovering from that situation...  ...although I am a pupil of the "better the devil you know" school.

I would counter that with the fact that newer cars are significantly less reliable/long lived than previous models.

Good luck, but you won't be getting one. They will have overpaid for it, and will be unlikely to let it go at a loss.

Also bear in mind that used values are starting to drop again, so there will be better options around in a couple of months if you can afford to wait.
