Unfortunately he was used as a pawn by Blair to keep the genuine old style  Labour supporters on side while he implemented his revolution that all but wrecked the UK.

Ironically all the Labour luvvies are lining to say nice things about him today, but I bet old Two Jags wouldn't get selected as a candidate for the modern Labour party anymore than Maggie Thatcher would be selected for the modern 'Conservative' Party.  ::)

Throughout his whole life he was adamant that he would never accept a peerage.
As soon as it was offered he snapped it up.  ;D

Kinock and his MRS were another pair that wanted the house of lords disbanded but took their peerages and all the additional benefits that came with it
