2.2 exhaust
« on: 09 May 2017, 20:59:46 »

Okay, just to grow a different question out there for once....

Other than the price and the fact that there are less boxes on the 2.0 exhaust, is there any advantage or disadvantage to using a 2.2 exhaust after the car on a 2.0, other than the tailpipe length after the box?

Reason is that my estate always sounds like it has a lot of resonance, especially round town. I have tried an Eternal system and a Walker one and the Walker one actually sounds better. There is a good deal around the join to the cat and the cat has a good flexi on it (although this is a good pattern unit that passes the MOT every year and is fully wrapped on the downpipe).

My theory is that, using a decent system with dual-skin boxes and more boxes might make it quieter.

Thoughts?

My old 2.2 with a decent flexi and eternal boxes was near enough silent.  :y

Yup, I replaced the 2.2 with 2.0 on my estate and it's very quiet now. Took me 2 goes to get the fit right (had vibration when I first did it). But this was due to me not having a ramp and being crack-handed rather than the exhaust.

Mine was eternal also.

Just for a counter view (and yes I am fussy) - mine ended up back on 2 mid box system which I found sounded much better and is the original design.

I am talking about going the other way, from a single box middle section to a twin middle on my 2.0.

I decided not to go with the Eternal system from the link as it is only a single skin according to their communications (apparently they used to be double-skinned). I have found a double-skin version made of good steel somewhere else in Poland which is being sent to me.

My last system from Eternal was only single-skin as well, which is why it resonates so much.

If it goes to plan, I may have a good condition 2.0 estate exhaust if anyone wants it?

Here's a Polish exhaust growing out of my hedge. It came off a 2.2 saloon I scrapped a year ago. I have 2 other 2.2 saloons, I am sure I shall need it soon.

Is it new and do you have a link that you can post up?
