Serial Vauxhall but never Omega owner
« on: 22 April 2017, 13:44:00 »

Hi all!

I've had Vauxhall after Vauxhall but still never a rear drive one. I'm hoping to change that in the next couple of months!

I absolutely love the look of the 2.5 TD in the sales forum but I'm really after a petrol unfortunately :(

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. I think I'd better hang around here a bit and get to know a little more about what to look for and generally what I need to know about them. I have an Astra SRi Turbo 200 and some other non-Vauxhall stuff at the moment and I think I'd be getting an Omega in addition. If anyone does want to get rid of a 3.0 or 3.2 manual I'm all ears!

All the best,
Jimmy

That might be a better idea now you mention it!

Is it just as easy as that?

Hardest bit will be finding a manual 2.2 petrol, followed by having a new downpipe made...

LET better than LET/LEZ. But all doable 8)

OK, mine is a Z20LER so it is a Z20LET but might need an LET ECU amongst any other loom stuff

Food for thought when the M32 gearbox inevitably gives up  :P

Thank you all for the welcome! I'll mostly be reading and asking the odd question here and there  :y

Good luck in your search.  My beloved Silver Bullet (1998 MV6 auto with LPG) is going in a week, but you really don't want that one ;D

If you get a good one, they really are a hard car to beat for commuting, mile crunching, holidays etc.  There will, however, be a lot more body roll than the Astra, which will take you a while to adjust to.  Plenty of good advice here how to make an Omega do corners reasonably well (it'll never be a sports car, its a big exec cruiser).

An MV6 with LPG sounds appealing on the face of it! I'm guessing there's more to it than that  ;D

Oh yeah, I'm expecting a prospective Omega to be boatier than the Astra but rewarding in its own way. I've had everything from superminis through pickup trucks and a V8 Range Rover and back to hot hatches so I'm part of a broad church  :y

But my mate reckons that it's best to go from a V8 Range Rover to an MV6 if you want to find the fuel economy acceptable  :'(

I've never welded in my life!

After reading around the site a bit, I'm feeling like I would like a 2.5 CDX manual with a set of 3.0 cams in it. I'll get searching for a set of cams I guess!

Hmmm, can I be persuaded to remove the cams before it gets turned to baked bean tins....  ....its done 232k though.

Which shows these engines can go on. They like regular oil servicing, but GM oil is cheap.  Its the rust that kills 'em

You're probably best starting a new thread in one of the chat areas, as threads here autolock after a set period ;)

Hmm, good point. I don't think I've got the skill for a full engine swap really. Cams though I can manage
