We just got back from WSM on Friday night after spending 3 days there. We were in the pier arcades Friday afternoon trading in our tickets...at least we saved a few bits and pieces from being burned! lol

 :'( Oh what a shame! :'(

I hope it doesn`t now become like the utter-disgrace that is Brighton pier; unloved, un-restored and a complete eyesore. :(

Surely, in view of their historical and iconic significance, our Victorian piers should benefit from Lottery heritage monies: a better-use than some 'causes' I have seen identified for`same! ::)

Some good memories there!

Yet another one then James to join the list of damaged / lost piers like Brighton West!  :'( :'(

Great shame as when I lived in Thornbury, Bristol, my ex and our young family would spend many a happy hour there on that pier.

Hopefully they will restore it. :(

I could see the smoke on the motorway this morning on the way into work (a good 20 miles away), I thought at first something at Avonmouth had gone up switched on the radio and found out it was Weston's Pier. Like others have said here I spent many hours of my childhood wasting money on there, I always like the way you could see the water through the cracks in the floor boards. I think last time I went on there would have been just before it closed for the winter period, the kids last went on there with SWMBO last Thursday.

Yes I spent a lot of time at Weston Super Mare (still remember cutting my foot open at the marina lol, trust me to find the one piece of glass in there when I jumped into the sea off the bottom of the pier).  Long time since I've been back there tho so my memory is a tad hazy lol.  No its not early onset senility he he!

Weston on Mud, we always called it -- you had to trog miles over the wet sand to get anywhere near the water --- and if the tide was in you could only get ankle deep !!!!!

Tragedy. I watched it agog live on SkyNews this morning. Thank god no lives were lost.

I hope they do restore it. It would be a shame for it to go the way the cliff lifts at Scarborough went.
