Engine block swap
« on: 11 March 2016, 20:15:46 »

If got a 2.5 engine I know can swap straight for 3.0

But would a 3.2 block mate to my 2.5 heads and run ok ?? Or is the other things to change or do..

I suspect that 2.5 heads have too small a combustion chamber to work on a 3.2. This will result in a massive increase in compression ratio. Then there's the lieklihood of smaller valve sizes to consider

Why not install a complete 3.2 engine on the earlier non DBW management for a simple bolt-in swap?

Why piss about?

Fit the complete 3.2 engine, swap your sensors over, and fit the ecu/throttle body/fuel rail/maf from a 3.0 to it...

Fitting a complete 3.0 would be even easier ::)

Or what Nick said...

Haven't we been down the best type of V6, before.

Easiest way, bare 3.2, running 3.0 bits, and 3.2 manifolds. O and proper gearbox (ar35) :y

because you cannot install a compelte 3.2. heads are different and runs DBW. mine being 2.5 has individual spark plugs not coil packs..

so hence the question will block work fine no my 2.5 heads..

maybe a 3.0 block is a better option then or whole 3.0 ...

I repeat

Use a bare 3.2. and fit all the gubbins from yours onto it.
Plenums, sensors, etc and remove tha air injection, and grind 5mm off your downpipes.

Yes heads are different, but you are fitting plug leads, and not re-fitting the sai.
And dbw is on the throttle bodies, which you aren't fitting.

My apologies didnt read that post you wrote about best v6 being 3.2 block 3.0 heads etc...

Good to know

And harris k telemacher do one..

Nothing constructive to say dont speak  contemplating it because its next stage in tuning...

Your talking to someone who ports own cylinder heads... Does all their own machining work head skimming  rebores ... Turbo carb conversions.. im quite ok on carrying out tasks...

End of day was a question  jist want to see if a 3.2 block bolts straight on my heads thats all .. extra cc is more torque plus high comoression then.. but by sounds of it may be too high.. good information ill go for a full 3.0 if poss and fit my current arangement of cams. Exhaust sports cat etc

 :)

Are heads not different between dbw and cable..

I know dbw on a solid lead pack and not individual leads

But can you literally put a coil on plug pack on inplace of individual leads..

That was i could understand using a whole 3.2.. if not it would still need 2.5/3.0 head surely to allow use of ignition leads not pack

3.2 Heads will be fine on a 3.0 setup you will just have to use your existing rocker covers which will accommodate plug leads rather than coil packs :y

You have that back-to-front, leads onto a coilpack head doesn't matter as the head differences are mainly to retain the coilpack. Putting coilpacks onto an earlier head will(probably - I haven't done it)  require some improvised method of retaining them. Your machining expertise will make this easy. Using 3.0l heads on a 3.2 is just work and expense for the sake of it.

As has been repeatedly posted: use a bare 3.2 with the 3.0l management.

ahh ok that good.. so because the car runs leads as standard (2.5)    a 3.2 head can be used and just install leads in stead of coil on pack..

but other way wouldn't work

gotcha

cheers nick w

so i understand now why best bet is a whole 3.2 but just use all my ancillaries and it will accept the plug leads as std with no modification fab knews thats easiest way

If you were thinking of fitting a 3.2 bottom end I would use 2.6 heads and port the inlets. I believe doing this brings the compression level up to the 3.0 levels...
This is what I have being toying with my own car. :y
