Just had a google as to why it's happening, apparently the average comprehensive policy is now over £800. According to several financial sites, ins cos haven't made a profit for the last 20 years, what with floods and the like, and are really going for it this year.
Also, if you pay monthly, they are hitting people with a charge of up to 50%APR.

The reason it's gone up, yes to pay for the flood, and the insurance companies know that all cars need to be insured, were as houses don't, hence put all the cost to the motorists,.
Yet again the motorist pays. :(

Houses have got to be insured if you have a mortgage, and that is getting hammered too. We're moving house soon and we've just had a buildings and contents quote of over £600.

It's not law, they recommend, advise.
If you cancel the policy, they don't fine you,or take you to court.
As long as you pay the mortgage, bank don't care.

Just done a check . . .coming up on go compare at £220 full comp with the Co-Op for the 3.2 with SWMBO on it  :)

No breakdown cover on that though  . . .so same as last year with Hastings.  I have found you just have to move insurers

every year now as existing insurer renewal quotes are usually at least double the previous year  ::) ::)

I was pleasantly surprised with my renewal, I thought it'd go up so had been on the compare sites prior to receiving the renewal.
It's just landed at my door and not only beats the online prices it beats their own quote on there and is alot cheaper than last year  sub 300 quid again. . :y

Email response from they today -

Unfortunately, we do not deal direct with the public. To obtain a quotation you would need to go via one of our insurance brokers.
