My 1998 AR35 sumps are held on with sealant.  Mind you, they've been on and off like a whores drawers over the years ;D
I recall discovering bits of thrust washer at Newent one year... Solution - Ignore it until another day  ;D
Said thrust washer now replaced with metal one :y
I don't think we had much choice at the time but to slap the sumps back on.

What symptoms are you getting?Do they throw codes? When you'd refilled with fresh fluid you did run it for a short while and then rechecked level with engine running didn't you?Sorry if i'm teaching grandma to suck eggs here.

Really.....??

Wish I knew that before going to Vauxhalls for the gaskets and filter.... cost me about £100 just for two gaskets and a ruddy filter. Just glad I bought the complete stock of fluid from my local B&Q when they was selling the stuff off last year :)

You are going to have to get the gearbox out of the car in any case to get to the thrust washer (if that is the cause).

I have seen people offering good AR25 gearboxes for £75 on here so I think you have a simple choice between repair or replace.

Does the 2.6 run the AR25 'box?If it does I think if I were swapping one out I'd look into fitting the AR35 in its place, although I don't know how involved a job that is,but the AR35 is for me the better/stronger box.
