Sure they have done wrong and some people will be sacked/maybe sent to prison but am I the only person who thinks that the world has gone mad for justice.
I do feel sorry for anyone whose pension is linked to VW stock.

If their cars were way above everyone elses in terms of Nitrous Dioxide emissions then maybe there is a case but to me they all look similar. That being the case the others are bending the rules too. So lets bring the car industry to its knees with class actions etc.

I bet VW sales rocket as initially stock is discounted. At the end of the day, people buy cars on performance, economy, build quality, comfort and price. I suspect Nitrous Dioxide emissions (assuming the buyer knew cars emitted that) would be very low on a list.

Which is exactly why it is legislated for.

A few contacts I know in the industry (mainly JLR) have long suspected something odd as the VAG test figures and the engine performance on a road test suggested technology beyond that which was available in a volume environment.

So the issue is that VAG are outputting a lot more NOx than any other manufacturer......given its legislation you have to fix it or potentially the vehicle is not allowed on the road......but that will be at the expensive of performance on the road.....which the owners wont be keen on.

It raises an interesting question as to how any resolution is implemented too. So, VW issue a recall, which replaces the firmware, removes the emissions issue, but the recall makes the car sluggish.

Who's going to voluntarily take their car to have such a recall?
Who's going to pick up the cars that remain non compliant?

The MOT testing regime has no facility to do so, as it's based on the assumption that the car was compliant when new in respect of NOx emissions. There's no provision for failing the car due to emissions that aren't part of the MOT testing regime and no provision for failing it due to failure to have a recall implemented.

The cars will go on producing excessive emissions until they are scrapped, as far as I can see.

And who`s going to want their car back after it has effectively been detuned  when you don`t have a say in it?

Second hand values could drop faster than the Titanic.

Well they wil be the first of many.  we all know other brands will be at it in some way.

To be honest I work within the VAG network and I have no doubt winterkorn is sharing his bed with a horses head right now.

It will be interesting to see how the software mod changes the driveability of models effected.

Will it effect there market position?  meh. I don't think it will much.....

UK are now looking into rechecking the models in the UK and will retest any models if necessary and compare to everyday emissions

Will they have to go the same route as other manufacturers, instead of taking the p!ss by adding the p!ss with AdBlue to get compliant NOx figures? :o :o :o :o

Not a patch on the rest of today's news, but the Swiss have banned the sale of various models.
