It's 11600 miles......
« on: 18 February 2015, 17:31:25 »

...since I last replaced the rear tyres on my Omega.

Good....bad......indifferent, or just plain piss poor mileage?.....You tell me.

Anyway, my wallet is now £188 lighter. :'(

Assuming £15  a corner to balance and fit, each tyre has cost me the princely sum of £79.

I'm reasonably pleased with that. :y

Assuming you drive everywhere like you're trying to qualify for pole position at Spa, not bad..

I got about 28,000 miles out of the pair I replaced last week for the MOT. That's budget 235/45 17(no, I don't remember/care what brand they were) on the back. I don't live like a lunatic, but I do believe in making decent progress.

How on earth do you get such mileage?.... ;) I'm impressed.

You must drive the undernourished four pot to get those figures. :D :D

EDIT......3.0 V6. You must be related to that funny Tunnie chappie. ;) ;D

People have always said that you get many more miles if you mainly drive on the motorway, as opposed to twisties or stop/start A roads. I'm not sure but it seems to make sense. My journeys mainly consist of stop/start, left bend/ right bend, up hill/down hill so I'll see what my mid range tyres do. Yours are on a rear wheel driven vehicle, mine are fwd.....lots of parameters to take into account.
Where's Christine?  ;D

There may be something in what you say. :)

I was thinking that 11600 miles was 'reasonable.

My old FJ1200 would trash a rear tyre in 1500 miles. :-\

Crikey good......or crikey bad?... ::) ::) ;)

I reckon they were down to 1.0mm. Certainly well below the legal limit of 1.8mm.

I just drive it!

Back when I used to drive my cars hard, I used to get 32,000 miles out of a set of 185/70 13 on 2.0l Capris. That was wearing all 4 evenly, without rotating them! A well set-up 4cylinder Capri is still hard to beat for fun without being ridiculously fast.

Both rear tyres have lost 10 PSI overnight. :-\

I asked the fitter to clean the rims before putting the new tyres on but....... :-\

I just can't seem to keep the air in the tyres.

Any ideas, chaps?
