A warm hello to you all. Before purchasing my Omega I found this site of tremendous use and it looks like a good place to be.

I have always been active in car clubs/forums etc so here we go 
I am the new owner of a 2002 2.6 MV6 Omega in silver. Found a good one (I think) only done 60k miles with full dealer service history so fingers crossed.
Same owner past 11 years!

Have always been a petrol head and have mostly been on the Japanese scene for the past few years although In the Vauxhall camp I have had in the past Nova SRI / Corsa SRI / Vectra Estate and way back in the day a Calibra 2.0 16v which I adored.
More recently I have imported a few MX5's have had a Lexus LS400, BMW 528i, Nissan Maxima Qx 3.0ltr V6 to name but a few.

On the hunt for another lexus the Omega came up and ticked all of the boxes so looking forward to learning a lot.

My to do list includes
Wheel refurb
Check with dealer about timing belt and do if needs done ( I know its low miles but with the age of the car it should have been done)
The tiniest of tiny rust bubbles (not visibile) under my arches so will get this done in the summer
Probably 4 new tyres before MOT in August - the road noise from the existing tyres is deafening!
Brake overhaull I think - someone has painted the calipers red in a previous life which are not to my taste.
Performance Panel Filter
Performance Exhaust - current exhaust is fine but backbox surface rust is shocking.


Overall with the mileage I think the car could be a keeper for a while.

I know what you mean - each to their own and all of that but just takes away from the sleekness or class of the car IMHO.
I have a cousin who is challenged in the taste department who painted her calipers bright red on a nearly range rover sport for god sake.
Never got it

I must say I was surprised at what I could get for the money - I have been somewhat blinkered by the japanese cruisers of late but looking forward to getting to know this big barge!

Welcome to OOF. For interest, the perceived wisdom on here is that fitting other than an OE filter is counter-productive, and does not improve the performance.

The only reason personally for changing the filter for anything other than OE would just be for the induction sound, Which going by YouTube videos it's a rather nice grunt, Was tempted myself till wisdom kicked in. iirc there's something inside the air box that can be removed for a slight difference in tone can't recall the name (possibly called a trumpet)

Be aware with some aftermarket filters you'll either reduce performance or shag the MAF.  For performance, time and time again we've shown that the GM (pattern replacements have less surface area) is best.

Obviously, if its for show/noise, with performance unimportant, ignore me

Thank you for the heads up on the OEM air filter wisdom.
I was considering a Pipercross or K&N panel filter yes for a little noise but also for the lifetime of the product making servicing that little easier in the future.

However - I don't want to do anything to upset the engine so will do some more research before changing anything.
