Sorry to see that and the hassle you are going to have with insurance companies. :'( But like Tunnie said: "at least they have got the git".

Is it compulsory to tell my insurance company?

I've heard that they class you as a greater risk even though I wasn't even in the car?
No, claim direct, if they wont play ball, get an independent Insurance Assessor to do it, he will probably get you a tad more as well and claim hes costs to them.

Please tell us immediately

if you or any driver named on your policy, are involved in an accident or loss, no matter how trivial and even if you do not wish to make a claim

What with the house problems following your move and now this, did you shoot a Robin?

You should report  and see what happens, remember it was his fault and must pay for the damage caused whatever the insurance say. :y

I don't really want to involve my insurance company. I've been driving for 25 years and have never made a claim or reported anything. Even when things like today happen.

It's only a bit of plastic and a few scratches.

I guess that is wrong of me but I think of insurance as being there for big accidents etc.

I would think if the other driver was arrested for D/D and your car was parked up, then your insurance would have a hard time trying to blame you and stitch you up on your renewal.  :-\ and as police are involved I would deffinately contact the insurance company. :y

look in the bright side.. no that bad..  no body work required.. :y

Apart from all the scratches around the bumper. ;D

half hour sanding , 10 minutes masking, 2 coats of laquer (paint not that necessary)  .. an hour  of drying .. job done :y

if you go through your insurance watch your no claims bonus/discount sometimes better to not claim not fair I know but that's the way insurance seems to work.

IMO. It depends how much the repair will cost. If its less than any excess I'd fix it myself. Sue the other driver for the bill later or whatever.

It may say inform your insurer, but ime that's purely to get you to give them an excuse to put the premium up. Only claim if its worth claiming.

Mean while, it just need a rear light to get you going again. By the looks.
