Beware because a lot of people are using cheap Chinese components to refurbish them. I know I've got genuine Bosch parts.
Even that £60 could be a waste on money.

That's a fair point zYx, but I still reckon that with a 12 month warranty it's a better bet than an unknown quantity from the scrappy.  ;)

The only thing that fails on the uber reliable 2.5/3.0 alternators is the regulator, and thats cheap and easy to swap.

The bearings can get noisey with time/pressure washing but again, its about 10-12 pounds for good bits and an hour to change.

I had a another think about fixing my alternator but as it's done 215000 miles I'm sure the bearings will need doing as well, and as I want to be 100% sure that whatever goes back in works, I chickened out and ordered a reconditioned one.  :-[  ;D

I'll have a go with the old one at some stage though and found this company for the bits.  :y
