Very sad day for me. Had to let my bike go. It had just turned 30 this year as well. I had owned it for 11 years and 5 months virtually to the day.


I actually felt my stomach tighten as I walked away 


The reality is sinking in this evening that I probably will never ride again

Aye its a horrible feeling , had bikes all my life but gave them up 3 years ago now . Still miss them but dont miss the frost bite

Sorry to hear this, go for test rides on some new machines, might get you going again?

Time to MOT the GS again tomorrow. Done about 200 miles since last MOT 

Did few 1000 last time thanks to my Scotland trip, really must use it more this year.

Recent MOT 'certificates' show the mileage at the last three MOTs ....... I don't think my bike has done that over the past few years

Sold mine about 3 weeks ago. Same scenario,very unlikely to have another now. Was a bit stomach churning after almot 40 years.
It comes to us all though I suppose.

Strangely I sold it back to the garage I bought it from, took it there for its MOT (passed with flying colours) and mentioned it had to go. All happened very quickly from there. Think happening so quickly was slightly better for me.
A more modern bike with electric start may get me back on for a couple of years, but age and more importantly infirmaty is the real cause.
Its a new day, will try to move on

Sorry to hear...  maybe you should try a newer bike, some of the new bikes are very easy to ride - switchable power output, lower centre of gravity, ABS, TC etc

Although I prefer my bikes a little older, I don't think I'd have the nerve to ride a £10-11k bike as hard as I do my old ThunderAce as I'd be too worried about how much it cost.

Not to me it doesn't. I've had my eye out for a nice Hayabusa for some time. The closer we get to winter the cheaper they become.

Three grand should buy me a nice example.
Such a pity that Mrs Opti's new kitchen will have to be put on hold.

Only 145 BHP, but enough for my old bones.

The ThunderAce is the 1000cc version... the ThunderCat is the smaller 600

**145bhp is plenty for me..  I only weigh 60kg so get a pretty good bike+rider power to weight ratio

By my reckoning that's only 9st 6lbs in old money.

My last weigh in at the quacks was 14 stone something or other. Too fat for a man of six-one, so I'm told.
