Re mapping or something??
« on: 07 August 2013, 17:42:44 »

Hi you knowledgeable people out there
This is prob a stupid question but, swmbo says thats what im good at !
Anyway my old girl ( the 2.5 v6 one) is struggling a bit at times at moment under acceleration and definitely when I last towed the caravan, now someone suggested i could get the engine re mapped or something to get some more oomph back in the old girl .
Is this true or am i getting it all wrong ?
Thanks in anticipation

around 15-20 hp on top end.. and some torque loss at low rpms..

and converting to manual is the best bet :)

no idea how much it costs in UK.. but if you will install these options on an auto you will lose most of it on tranny..

I had a 2.5 V6 Omega that was fitted with 3.0l cams and chipped with one of Superchips' finest.

Whilst an improvement on standard, it was still nowhere near as quick or drivable as my 3.0l, so I doubt that the cams and chip would add 30bhp as the figures above suggest.

I think the cams only seem to come in at higher revs (unless that was the chip), so not sure if that was the benefit you were looking for?

I have the 3ltr cams in my 2.6 auto. I only feel the difference at the higher end.

when combined wont give a neat 30 bhp unless some other tunings done. also 2.5 torque values will never be same as a 3.0

I would suggest that you service the car first including the fuel filter as a part blocked filter will cause loss of power and performance. When was it last serviced?  check that the cars breathers are clear and there are no air leaks on the induction side of the engine. Chipping will give you a bit more performance but you will not be any better off with a pikey van on the back.

As you prefer autos, another point to consider is the autobox - the 2.5 runs the AR25 box, and any significant power increase will screw the box - the solution is to fit the 3.0 lit box, AR35 box - obviously a cost implication
