trying to park at low speed/revs very stiff
when driving get the feeling it wants to pull either way
the steering fluid is filled and seems ok
there is a trace of fluid on hoses but nothing drastic
doesn't seem any noise just a feeling of pulling

Sounds like a tired PAS pump, does the issue to away with some more revs?

Before you replace anything Brian.Have you checked th fuse ? I once suspected my first Omega had PAS pump trouble as it was very stiff at low speeds but seemed ok at higher speed. It turned out the fuse was blown and the steering was just naturally lighter at speed.
I have checked on your PM question about a PAS pump by the way.According to our resident font of all knowledge, the pumps are the same. The thing that will be different is the pipework,so as long as you retain the pipes from your car rather than use the ones from a 2.5 or 3.0 then it should be fine.
Make sure you actually need one first though. :y
