Wow! The sound alone could wake the dead. :-*

Let's hope they take it to Le Mans one day. Need some more proper noisy cars there these days. All those boring Audi tractors. ::)

I do like the RX-8's and I am very tempted to get one after the Omega, Drove one in work and they driver really well and pick up nicely, can get decent ones for not a lot of money and the majority are well looked after, people get put off by the rotary engine after the RX-7s but don't seem to realise these more modern rotary engines are much more reliable than the earlier ones, they do tend to flood if you turn them off whilst the engine is cold though.

I remember reading about them before, very poor reliability which in turn reduced the value of the car and all that was needed to solve the problem was a revised tip seal design, its amazing how something from so long ago when the rotary engine was so new to the public can have a lasting effect on people thoughts towards the engine.

I think they probably tried at the time. 30+ yrs of technology in between has helped though  ;)

To be begin with she'll stick it in top (6th) at 20 mph and wonder why the 93 year old district nurse overtakes her in an elderly Hillman Imp. ;)

Didn't Mazda win Le Mans with a rotary car in the eighties?. It seems to ring a bell. :y

Would of thought they had fixed that problem by now  ??? Guess when it does eventually start up there's some serious flames out the pipes  ;)

Quote
a common "cure" for an ailing rotary engine was to simply swap it for a Ford V4 "Essex" engine (as found in Mk1 Transits) since it was one of the few engines compact enough to fit in the Ro80's engine bay. Thus in an ironic twist, one of the smoothest engines in the world was replaced by one of the roughest.

 ;D

I saw an Ro80 on the road fairly recently. By the noises it was making, it didn't have a Ford V4 under the bonnet either (an easy one , that!).

Want want want!!  But don't have the balls...  :-[

The amount I see on t'ebay as "spares or repairs", with grumbly-bits, scares me off  :'(

But yours looks like a fine example, well paid for (I'd be looking at round about the £2k area, I.E. the "Danger Zone"...  :-X "
