£284 million contract for 10,000 guards ...thats £28400 per person for 6 weeks...
G4S are paying around £10 per hour so say the average guard covers 60 hours a week thats £3600 over 6 weeks  ..so only £248 million profit..less training...wonder what baron reid ex labour home secretary cut is

Yes I can see the reason for your concerns BBK.

This may yet be another case where lobbying, slick presentation and an intimate understanding of the system has very effectively obscured the vision of those who are supposed to vet such proposed contracts in the (apparently vain) effort to ensure that the taxpayers get value for money and that those alleging their services to be professional, secure and responsible are, in fact, not misrepresenting their assertions and are being wholly truthful in what they say.

This country now seems to be at the mercy of those who decide to blag, with impunity, what they can from the public purse.

"it is only right that we give an extra 10000 seats to ticket for troops"

Why, so you can slap the troops in the face with them as they are working and cannot use the rather tickets?!  Yes it's ok to cancel the leave for soldiers, and them losing any money they had spent on holidays*, as long as the rather gravy train dosn't stop..... >:( >:(

* the army doesnt compensate in such circumstances and companies give you the big f-off pill if you try and recover your money afterleave has been cancelled.

I am not saying that 284 million is not a large sum, but the guards aren't the only cost that G4S will have, is it? It's a little short sighted to make a statement that they will profit 248 million

G4S are in my view a bunch of pillocks...... they farm out a lot of their event work to smaller security firms and cherry pick the best work...they sent a novice guard to our site last week to oversee shopfitters in a Next store overnight, the lad was approx 19yrs old and barley spoke english(how did he get his S.I.A.??? conflict management and all that) he spent the entire shift outside of the store either on his phone or asleep in his car... so in the interests of our tennant i spoke to my duty manager who advised me to inform the key holder as to what was going on.. Key holder shows up takes 1 look and rings G4S and tells them to get the useless guard off site asap and replace asap, to which they reply no body available.... I did apply to them when i was a dole scrounger a couple of years only to get knocked back because of my IVA(they dont employ you if your in debt.your a security risk!!).. so i reckon they`ve breaked up big time with the olympics..... ::) ::)

Thats normal for the forces, we often have to take out special holday insurance which covers getting called up.  Even then it doesn't always pay out.  It's a rather joke!

I thought it was common knowledge from their numerous previous opps-ups that G4S are a useless bunch of knuckle draggers. Did they expect anything less when rewarding them the contract?

Should have used our forces from day 1 and invested the £284M in avoiding the recently-announced redundancies. >:(
