Power Sounder Disconnection
« on: 20 May 2012, 17:24:19 »

Just about to disconnect my power sounder as I suspect the rechargeable batteries are draining my main battery. Removed driver side wiper and rubber seals as described in maintenance guide but access is still a bit tight to say the least! I now have a throuple of questions 1. Is it possible to remove the power sounder for further investigation without removing the whole scuttle? 2. Do I just disconnect the power sounder or should I disconnect what looks like a horn as well 3. Does the alarm noise come from both the horn and the power sounder. ;)

It's easier with both wipers off and scuttle fixings under screen rubber removed. Just remove power sounder and tape the connector up. The single horn is the main alarm so leave that alone.  :y

Main Alarm? Can someone please explain the mode of operation of the main alarm and where the power sounder fits in - Is the main alarm just powered off the main battery then? ???

The power sounder goes off when it senses a voltage change i.e unauthorised battery disconnection. The horn will still go off when a door is open/forced etc. Movement inside the car sets off the horn, not the power sounder.
That's my take on it anyway. I may stand corrected.

As the guys above have said ... but to put it in a nutshell ...

ALL the "alarm" functions are alerted by the main alarm horn.

The ONLY time the power sounder will operate is if the ignition is off and the battery is disconnected, either by cutting the wires or unbolting a terminal.

The ONLY way of bypassing the powersounder is to disconnect it within 15 seconds of turning the ignition off.

It is possible to remove without removing scuttle, but its tight and fiddly. Scuttle removal is also a bit fiddly, so takes your choice ;D

Plug power sounder within 15s of turning ign off.
