Jack it up, test for play by twisting the wheel, 3 & 9 o' clock, then 6 & 12 o' clock. Could even be just loose wheel studs, or a wheel bearing. Caliper could be loose, just use common sense really.

Is the knock in time with wheel speed? Or suspension movement? Or steering movement? Other?

Drop links are most common, but could be a number of things.
To test drop links, jack BOTH sides of the front of the car onto stands, then get under the front and trace the roll bar to its very end above the wishbone. Grab the roll bar as close the the end as possible by hand and pull up and down. If you can feel play there, replace the drop links. (dog bone shaped rods that connect the end of the roll bar to the shock body)

If no play is found, proceed to the FAQ section where you'll find a host of tests in the handling guide.

Lay money its breaked drop links - its sometimes difficult to diagnose failed drop links.  Replace as they are cheap and easy to fit ;)

But will be a complete waiste of time and money for the op of its not.
Check first IMO. Play is blatantly obvious with both wheels jacked. ;)
