Cam Sensor?
« on: 03 March 2012, 15:12:55 »

Hi all, I had my car connected to a code reader, I posted the code on here and was told it was the Cam Sensor (which ties in with something I read in the service history). I purchased a new genuine part from a member on here and fitted it today. The car was considerably worse with the new sensor fitted, disconnected the new sensor and ran it with no Cam Sensor and although obviously not right was better than with Cam Sensor connected. Any pointers would be gratefully received.
Regards
Chris    >:(

Had the same engine previously and same problems.
First try cleaning your old sensor and reffiting it if you still have it.
I've had problems with my previous 2.2 mig, code reader pointed at cam sensor.
Fitted new one and car worked like a tractor.
Refitted old one and car was fine most of the time although error on cam sensor came on once a month usually after the car had a run and engine was warm.
after restarting once or twice it would go away.

Might help if I explain how the cars behaving, starting with new sensor is not as good as it was with the old one, throttle response is terrible and it just feels very underpowered. :'(

Are you absolutely certain the new cam sensor is genuine?  When mine was failing intermittently I bought what I thought was a new genuine cam sensor.  It turns out it wasn't genuine and it gave the same symptoms you describe.  I then replaced it with one from AndyC on here and the car ran perfectly.

Are you sure you are talking about the cam sensor, pretty sure a 2.2 will not run without the cam sensor connected.

Crank sensor is a different matter, you can disconect the crank sensor.

Cam sensor or crank sensor?

Hi all again,  Had the codes read again today, connected the code reader and cleared all codes, reconnected the cam sensor and started the engine. After switching the engine off read the codes as follows, P0120 - Throttle position sensor, P1120 - Accellerator pedal position sensor, P1550 - Electronic throttle control. Firstly, does this sound right taking into account the symptoms earlier in the feed, secondly, on one of the three codes the code reader specified Cam position sensor which does not tie in with the list I've just read. Please help as now totally confused >:(
