Hi,

Just tried to install my new JVC stereo and taken the old stereo out (double din) and i cant get any sound?

There are three plugs in the iso block , and there are 2 off my stereo , the power one fits the bottom and the other only fits one of the remaining two as the third one is too big so i know they are in the right plugs.

I get no sound at all? Am i missing something simple? Its the Bose system ive got

Unfortunately, you cannot use an aftermarket stereo with the BOSE system - your JVC has detected that you have 2 Ohm speakers instead of the more usual 4 Ohm ones and has shut down instead of going bang.

To go aftermarket, you need to remove the BOSE amp and rewire accordingly, and then replace ALL the speakers with standard 4 Ohm units. The BOSE will not integrate with aftermarket at all.

Ive just read somewhere you can get a loop back lead or something? Would that just mean i can use the original wiring but i will still need to replace the original speakers?

Just to add , what size are the speakers? Am i right in thinking there are 1 in each door and 2 in the back shelf?

So i buy a prefacelift cd changer loom , plug it into the bose loom in the drivers kick panel and what does that give me?

bypasses the bose amp. Still need to change the speakers in the doors (shelf ones will be disconnected)

Could i not replace the amp in the back with a newer amp that does 4 and 2ohm and then plug that into my stereo via preouts. Would it then be the case of the stereo would output 4ohm and then be converted into 2ohm in the amp therefore sound will work then?

Theoretically yes, however, trying to find an aftermarket amp that will give a low enough power at 2 Ohms is going to be very tricky.

Most amps reduce down to 2 Ohms for extra power (usually at the loss of sound quality) to drive great big speakers. The BOSE ones in the doors are paobably no more than around 60W max@ 2 Ohms - and there lies the problem with your theory.

Fronts are 165mm, rears are 130mm, and the shelf speakers are the same size as the fronts.

If you are looking to fit after market speakers then you may find they are too deep to fit in the doors without using spacers.
If you want a good sounding set of Vx. speakers then find a Vectra in your local scrap yard and use it's speakers...
