Drivers door solenoid

Just wondering has anyone got the part number for the drivers solenoid door lock before I search on ebay.(Mini facelift)And also can anyone explain why it works sometime but not all of the time, as a solenoid consists of a coil of wire and can only be S/C, O/C or have shorted turns, but how can it work sometimes?

Check the wires that run through the front of the door next to the hinges. Could be that some of them have broken or stranded with the constant flexing opening and shutting the door.  Better to check that before spending your hard earned!

Thats what I thought , but  I thought by taking the door apart I might aswell change the bloody thing while I am doing all the work.I am sure there two types of solenoids for different years. (Mine is R reg )

It's not a solenoid, it's actually a motor. And they do fail.  ;)

If it is a motor it still consist of a coil of wire but in a different arrangement and either works or will not not, but anything that pushes or pulls is a solenoid. What I really want to know is the part number as i will replace it.

Just ask one of the various people on the forum who dismantle cars for A N Other ..... New motors from Vauxhall are expensive. ;)

They do go intermittent before failing totally. Often the microswitch inside is the culprit.

I would think yours is the second one but others may confirm. Over 50 quid from a stealers I believe.

Agree Kevin, my passenger door solenoid certainly played up a lot before finally failing.

Vx Part no. is 090493702, which in May was £52.61 ex-VAT with trade card.

Hello Folks
I had my motor failing months ago and after clean up with oil it came to live again.
The microswith is sealed and hard to open but you just need a small opening to spray swith cleaner inside (2 people job).

After open the motor check the adjustments needed (important)
