Oil Leak Query.
« on: 10 December 2008, 23:13:53 »

I have an oil leak, right at the back of the engine somewhere. It drips down slightly back from the oil filter and drips down, over a couple of small metal pipes and then to under the car although its not enough to cause dripping on to the ground. It just gets a little smelly when stopped in traffic.

She drives fantastically with no sign of contamination in the water bottle so i'm assuming, rightly or wrongly that it isn't the head gaskets.

One thing that I didn't check, stupidly, is whether the oil filter has been done up tightly enough BUT other than that...any ideas where it could be coming from please.

OOOOOOOOOOO...not heard of them..thank you.

Is it difficult/expensive to put right and on a 11 year old car...should I bother.

What is the risk of not having them done for a while.

probably the most widely covered subject (bar wishbones and HBV)
lots of info on here mate in maintenance section - main point is breathers need cleaning as gaskets are the symptom not the cause

Breathers are as clean as a whisel and have been for some time.
Are head gaskets and cam cover gaskets one of the same..
