Warranty

If you buy a second hand car from a dealer - what are their obligations under the warranty.

I bought an omega - there is a auto box problem and they are unable to fix it - do I have a leg to stand on ?

It all depends on the small print. IIRC the dealer should supply a 3 month warranty as standard and the car should be suitable for purpose ie get you from A2B but if its a paid for warranty most of them are not worth tha paper they are written on :(

A full answer to this question could take all the pages on this forum, I'll try to be brief.
Assuming that the Omega in question is the M reg 2.5 V6 in your profile you can only expect a 12 year old car to be in  " condition commensurate with age and mileage " and, unless otherwise stated at time of sale, in a roadworthy condition i.e. able to pass an MOT. Mechanical condition, engine, gearbox etc, are not part of the roadworthiness issue, except for emissions. The key word is REASONABLE. The car should be in reasonable condition and do the job for which it was intended, allowances must be made for age and mileage etc. The important thing is how the car was described to you, if you were told that everything worked and you were offered a warranty then a suitable arrangement should be possible. Automatic box problems are nearly always diagnosed as being very expensive to rectify and usually it is something very simple that is wrong. Ask the dealer if his workshop would be willing to fit a second hand box that you provide, there are a few on the forum, or would he be willing to make a contribution towards the cost of having it sorted yourself. Warranties on older cars are usually worthless unless it is given by the dealer themselves. Post some more details about the car, cost, miles etc and read your invoice carefully.

What is the fault?

May be as simple as an oil change, or could be the washer.
